Why we built StepOz
When my parents said "let's just go back home", I built StepOz.
I'm an only child, working in Australia. I brought my parents here because I wanted them close.
But when they arrived, Australia wasn't a reunion for them — it was a strange world. No English, afraid to go to the supermarket, afraid to take the bus, afraid to go to the hospital.
Eventually they said: "Let's just go back home." Not because they didn't want to be near me — but because life in Australia felt too hard, and they didn't want to be a burden for every little thing.
That's why StepOz exists. I wanted to build something that could accompany my parents outside — not a translator, but like having me there: what to do now, what's next, and when it's done, we keep going.
